The Christmas Pickle.

One of the traditions we have in the family has to do with this little guy:

Every year my husband hides the pickle on the tree. We aren't sure where this tradition started, but it began somewhere within my husbands German heritage. The first to find the pickle wins a prize. Usually a present of some sort, this year a cash prize. B has won the prize three years in a row. Today...the streak was broken!

It was especially a tough find this year. They spent almost 30 minutes looking for it. :)

Congrats M!

  1. Yeah! We do the pickle too!! I don't think we've ever actually done a prize though. Just bask in the glory of being the finder for a minute :)

  3. Great story and fabulous photos, Meri! I am suprised no one knocked down the tree with all those long legs and arms everywhere ;).

And, where was Lawton during all this fun? I bet he could have sniffed out that pickle. Hehe!

  4. Very cool. I don't think we could put a pickle on our tree. It would be too easy to spot in our Charlie Brown tribute.

  5. That's awesome! I love the look on your boys faces. My mom has been the recipient of a new Christmas Pickle, I'll have to send her over to your blog to check out the fun!

  9. I always wondered about the pickle - I saw one at Hallmark! What fun! We may have to borrow your tradition. I think my kids would love it.

  11. we used to do the pickle too. Not sure if it's in my ornament box or my mom's...maybe we'll resurrect it this year. the funniest time we did it was when my uncle jumped up, knocked me to the ground, and elbowed his way to the tree to be the first to reach the pickle. we all laughed so hard.

  12. We do the pickle too! It got broken last year so I had to do get a new one.

In our house, Santa hides it when he comes and then the first kid to find it gets to open the first present...
